DGM HQ Broad Chalke dialects

09.38

DGM HQ.

Broad Chalke dialects erupted below this office floor punctually at 08.30, although not for long. The first customer did not stay for a detailed exchange of news & views. This office is now shaking with the impacts of a carcass becoming deconstructed by our landlord and village butcher, Mr. Fry. That beast is getting it now. Whump shake rattle. Whump shake rattle. That's what it gets for being so very tasty. I found Mr. Fry surrounded by random animal parts yesterday afternoon, when I visited to acquire milk.

The sky is mainly blue, with scudding clouds, and the sun is shining.

That is because it is real music... music that breathes and lives... music that taps into the energy of the moment.

Posted: Wed Jan 14, 2004 1:53 pm Post subject: I discovered a similar phenomenon a couple of years ago when I started learning West African drumming. There is something very magical sitting in a circle of 12 people when you suddenly hear everybody entrain to the rhythm... suddenly you can feel the "thing" take on a life of its own... and you can see it in everyone's faces. And it only gets better from then on...

This might be a description of work in a Guitar Craft Circle. Fairly obviously, current professional rock performance practice is nothing like this. When Guitar Craft Circles give public performances, often the audience sits in the space enclosed by the Circle. These are often, for me, privileged events. It is irrelevant that the players are not professional: professional, in this context, implies the capacity of a player to continue functioning while the audience do what they may to undermine the event. But, assuming a supportive & engaged audience, the containment of the space, players & audience enables the performance to move to a level far beyond what is available outside that context.

If tc's drumming circle enveloped Mr. Clueless of Budapest, and his extended international family, complete with attitudes, consumer rights & expectations, digital recording, photography, video & cell-phones, I would be interested in watching the drummers' faces & witnessing their responses.

Tone Probe are working on The Reduced King Crimson, a version of King Crimson Miniatures but not necessarily as minute. Several ReduKctions will be included on Frame By Frame. The Vicar is urging this venture forward.

This morning we received expert advice regarding the releasing & packaging of Frame By Frame: Second Edition. This is at variance with our plans formulated last night. We are inclined to accept the advice: the expert is to be trusted. There seems little point in re-releasing facsimile editions of compilations from the past to a new generation of listeners, so we are re-working & re-visiting the catalogue. Our current best available plan --

Frame By Frame: Second Edition
Volumes 1-4: Studio
Box Set of 4 jewel-cases with new artwork. More for the specialist & large retail shops.

The Concise King Crimson: Second Edition
Essentially, a double-CD version of Frame By Frame aimed at general record shops.

Frame By Frame: Second Edition
Volumes 5-8: Live
Box Set of 4 jewel-cases with new artwork

The Great Deceiver: Second Edition
Volumes 1-4 (musically as before)
Volumes 5-6 (discovered during the past decade).
New artwork.

17.01 Shortly off to Canterbury to play with my Luvvie.
